The Housing Executive has appointed Apex Housing Association to develop the land and a planning application has recently been submitted to build six new homes at the site.

“There is a clear need for additional new-build social housing in Rathcoole and we have been lobbying the Housing Executive to do more to address this pressing issue,” Ms Bradley commented. “This development will go some way towards meeting that need, although we will continue to press for further much needed social housing development.

“This particular site was highlighted to the Housing Executive by the DUP several years ago as suitable for new-build housing, and it is pleasing to see that progress is finally being made.”

Mr Dodds added: “This vacant land has acted as a magnet for fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour for several years. I warmly welcome plans for new-build housing which will transform and regenerate the area. Of course it is important that the development is sympathetic to the local neighbourhood, and I welcome the commitment from Apex Housing Association to consult with residents living in the vicinity.”

The Times asked Apex Housing about its plans for the site, but no one was available for comment at the time of publication.
