MP Wilson welcomes jobs figures

East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has welcomed the fall in unemployment figures for the 20th month in a row.

The newly released figures show a fall in those unemployed in the constituency by 511 from this time last year.

Mr Wilson said: “This is good news for school leavers, young people and those made redundant as a result of the recession and is due to the general upturn in the economy as a result of the policies of the Westminster government and the efforts of the NI Executive to promote inward investment and encourage local firm to expand or entrepreneurs to start their own businesses.

“It is significant that even during this recession, NI has performed better than in previous downturns because of the work of our own government.”

We only ever hear of the criticisms of Stormont but should remember that low local taxation, diligent job promotion, inventive schemes to get the unemployed back to work and a stable and peaceful society, has paid dividends for our economy.”
