Multicultural event '˜overflowing with goodwill'

The Causeway Multi Cultural Forum (CMCF) organised an impressive international programme which demonstrated unity and increased awareness and appreciation of the various cultures within the Borough.

The programme included Caribbean Reggae, Ulster-Scots dance, bagpipes and youth groups and local primary schools dancing and singing – even in Chinese! The

event finished with everyone joining in with African drumming and sampling foods from across the world.

Housing Executive Area Manager, Mark Alexander said “Events like this help people to feel welcome within our community and we know that safe, affordable and secure housing supports integration. We were delighted to support this event and the Forum and to see people of all ages with close ties to local social housing areas being involved. Several local schools and youth groups which we support were able to take part.  My congratulations go to all the volunteers and organisers for bringing such a wonderful event to Coleraine.”

Richard John, Causeway Multi Cultural Forum commented: “There is no better time to unite than the present and this programme is a true reflection of the high level of unity and togetherness among our people.”

The project was supported by various stakeholders including NIHE, BME sector organisations, Building Communities Resource Centre, The Honourable The Irish Society, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and other local groups and shops such as Lidl, ASDA, Sainsbury’s and TESCO, McAtamney’s Butchers, Tom Tom’s Bakery, FuseFM and the Karolina Shop.
