Mum and daughter give gift of hair

Hair Today...Aghalee mother and daughter Vivien and Jindara Scott are preparing to have their long, lovely locks shorn, but all in a good cause. The two ladies are donating their hair to The Little Princess' Trust, a charity which makes wigs for children with cancer. The event will take place in late February and the pair are als trying to raise money for the charity so donations are welcome. INLM04-202.

Mother and daughter Vivien and Jindara Scott will shed their locks next month and the pair are also trying to raise the money necessary to fund the making of a wig.

Vivien (45) explained how it came about. She said: “It was Jindara’s idea. She decided that after thinking about it for quite a while, she would like to shave her head and donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

“Jindara has decided to be brave and go bald. She will have her hair completely shaved off and all donated to make wigs for kids with cancer.

“I’m not as brave as she is. I’m getting 10 inches off mine.

“Jindara’s is about 19 inches, so in total we’ll be giving approximately 29 inches of hair.

“We’re doing some fundraising as well in order to raise the £350 it takes to provide a wig.”

She added: “Jindara was modelling for Finesse school of modelling with Avril Mawhinney and won a modelling competition in 2012. She says she has a choice how she looks but kids with cancer don’t. That’s the motivation for what we’re doing.

“We want to help others that don’t have a choice in how they look.

“Jindara is constantly thinking of other people before herself. That’s the type of little girl she is.”

Thirteen-year-old Jindara is a student at Lurgan Junior High School.

She also plays for the Under 14 team of the Junior Belfast Giants.

Her mum said: “She’s only been playing for just over a year, but she’s really good. She’s taken to it like a natural.”

Jindara was adopted by the Scott family from Thailand when she was two and a half.

Her sister Saichon, now 12, also came from Thailand to become part of the family. Saichon, who has special needs, goes to Parkview School in Lisburn.

Vivien, who has been married to Colin for 20 years, said: “Adoption is something we felt we always wanted to do.

“We have two boys Jack and Ben, who are 19 and 17. Instead of having more biological children we wanted to give someone a better life than they would have otherwise.”

In terms of their donations to the Princess Trust, a date has been set for Vivien and Jindara to get snipped - February 27 - though as yet they haven’t got a hairdresser enlisted to carry out the task.
