Mum appeals for good samaritan to come forward

A YOUNG mother-of-one who was knocked to the ground and injured in an unprovoked attack on Sunday afternoon is appealing for the good samaritan who stopped with her toget in touch.

The 34 year old woman had been walking along the Ballymacash Road to her mother’s home near the Omniplex. She had just left her boyfriend’s home at Ballymacash Park when she saw a man throwing a bouncing ball at a passing car.

As she walked past he turned to the woman and said that he would ‘show her. As the woman nervouslycontinued, with her head down, the man then did a ‘Jackie Chan’ style kick and struck her on the hip, knocking her across a nearby fence.

The attack left her shocked and dazed so when a passing motorist in his 60’s stopped to ask if she was all right, she had little time to thank him.

She walked on to Bow Street Mall where she rang her brother who came to get her and drove her to the police station where she made a complaint.

She said that she would remember her attacker if she saw him again.

“I wasn’t doing anything. I just walked past him with my head down when he struck me” she said.

“After it happened he just marched on. I am just glad my six year old was not with me.”

She says the man who came to her aid was in his 60’s, with a receding hairline, partially grey hair wearing glasses and driving a blue car.

“I would thank him properly” she said. “I was still in shock. ”

Police say that investigations are ongoing into the attack. They received a report that a woman had been assaulted in the Ballymacash Road area at around 1.45pm on Sunday.

“It’s understood an unknown male kicked the woman in the side causing bruising,” a PSNI spokesperson said.
