Mum dreading Christmas after Adam’s road death

The mother of a boy who was knocked down and died in Cloughmills last week says she does not want to return to her home or the road where he was killed.

Sarah Gilmour was walking her children along a country road to catch a school bus when they were hit by a car.

She had recently asked TUV leader Jim Allister to write to the North Eastern Education and Library Board, pressing for a bus collection from her home for road safety reasons. But she said yesterday that the board “had not had the decency to reply in any way” after she had flagged up her concerns.

“I hold them responsible for this. If they had sorted out the lifts, to come up that small distance in the morning, Adam would be here.”

She added: “I don’t want to go back up to that house; none of my children will ever walk out that gate.”

Transport authorities were told about “how dangerous the road was and the risks walking children down it, and it was like water off a duck’s back”, she said.

Ms Gilmour had told the authorities that “someone was going to get skittled”.

She told the Nolan Show: “I’m dreading Christmas. I know I have to do it for the other kids but it will never be the same, ever.”

Mr Allister is meeting the NEELB today. The board and the PSNI are still investigating the accident.
