Mum thanks public for torch support in Magherafelt

A WOMAN whose daughter took part in the Olympic Torch relay through Magherafelt, has thanked the public for their support.

Mrs Pauline McDowell, from Newtownards, told the MAIL that her 20-year-old daughter Kelly ran the leg between Piney Hill and Kirk Avenue last Thursday.

“It was raining heavy but the people still managed to turn out with their umbrellas to give their support to Kelly,” she said.

“I just want to thank everyone who took the time to show their support on the day. Magherafelt is a wonderful place and my family were struck by just how friendly and kind everyone was.”

Kelly, a history and politics student, was nominated to carry the torch because of her work in caring for her mum after she suffered a stroke.
