Mum's pride at tragic teenager's exam results

THE heartbroken mother of a teenager who died in the Castlerock holiday apartment tragedy says she is "unbelievably proud" of her son's exam results.

Katrina Davidson from Newtownabbey learned last week that her son Aaron had passed all four of his A-levels, including an A* grade in information technology.

Aaron Davidson and his lifelong friend Neil McFerran, both 18, died earlier this month after a suspected carbon monoxide leak at the north coast property. A third friend survived and is expected to make a full recovery.

Mrs Davidson said Aaron had been destined for Queen's University in Belfast following his seven years of full attendance at Glengormley High School.

"I was unbelievably proud when I heard Aaron's results – the whole family is so proud of what he achieved.

"He had already been accepted into Queen's and was going to make his mind up whether he wanted to do ICT or engineering."

The proud mum says her son worked very hard, gaining a B in Geography, a C in Mathematics and a D in Physics, and as well as his A* star grade in IT.

"It was typical of Aaron to take on four A-levels when he could have settled for three. He was just great at getting on with his work and he would have really enjoyed university," she said.

"I know he would have been a success because he worked hard and didn't get involved in anything that would hold him back."

Mrs Davidson said Aaron was "a fantastic son" and added: "He was no trouble at all and his exam results show you how hard he worked for them."

Aaron achieved some of Glengormley High's best GCSE results two years ago. He had been relaxing at the Castlerock apartment with his two friends ahead of receiving their A-level results when the tragedy struck.
