Mum's safety warning after daughter injured in fall from horse

A Carrickfergus mum has called for road users to take care when passing horses after her daughter was injured in a fall.

Julie Cooke’s 14-year-old daughter Megan was riding her horse, Charlie along the Woodburn Road near Farmhill Stables on Saturday afternoon when the incident occured.

Julie indicated that the horse was calm until it was allegedly startled by a passing cyclist.

According to a post on her Facebook page, her daughter fell from the horse, sustaining cuts and bruises, while the animal bolted up the road.

Julie appealed: “Remember if you see a horse and rider on the road, pass slow and wide.”

Police said they have been made “aware of an incident involving a horse on the Woodburn Road on Saturday afternoon”.
