Now in its ninth year, the walk is being co-hosted with Bar Retro at The Plough, Hillsborough, where all participants will be given a well-deserved goody bag sponsored by SuperValu and treated to mid-morning tea/coffee, scones and shortbread after the walk.

Fundraising Events Officer Arlene Creighton said: “The Mothers’ Day Walk is a wonderful opportunity to get involved, support Action Cancer and do something lovely ahead of Mothering Sunday. “For those who may have lost someone close to them – the walk and morning treats are a comforting way to do something in memory of that loved one.

“It is fantastic to have the support of Supervalu this year who are supplying goodies for all participants.”

The 1.5 mile route is suitable for all, including buggies and takes in a beautiful tree lined lake, which attracts a lot of wildfowl including ducks and swans.

The walk will start at 10am on Saturday 5 March – registration is from 9.45am.

There will be free car parking facilities at the forest park and directions will be in place for all walkers with an Action Cancer guide leading the way.

To take part all you have to do is contact Action Cancer for a registration form and pay a registration fee of £10 per adult or £5 per child and then just raise as much sponsorship as you can.

Action Cancer does not currently receive any government funding and needs to raise £4 million each year to continue its services.
