Mum’s tribute to community support

A LURGAN mum has paid tribute to family, friends and neighbours for all their support following a pre-Christmas fire which left her and her children homeless.

She has also paid tribute to the SDLP’s Declan McAlinden, the St Vincent de Paul Society and the fire service for their assistance in her hour of need.

Fire struck at Donna Craven’s home in Shankill just before Christmas, as reported by the ‘MAIL’.

It looked like a miserable Christmas was ahead for the family but the community rallied round to help.

Donna also thanked a lady who had called with her on Christmas Eve with a gift.

She said: “I didn’t know the woman but her gift was greatly appreciated.”

Donna also thanked the Shankill and Wakehurst Action Community Group for their help and support after the fire.

St Vincent de Paul were of tremendous help supplying Donna with grocery and oil vouchers as well as bedding. Donna said: “St Vincent de Paul were brilliant.”

Of Christmas she said: “The children were content. They were over the moon with what they got from Santa, they had been worried he wouldn’t know where to find them because we had moved so quickly.

“After it all we had a nice Christmas and that’s the main thing.”

Since the fire of December 16 the family have found a new home.
