Speaking to the Times, Crozier, who has been writing part-time for around a decade said: “I have written two novels previously, which were published on Amazon. The Little Wagons will be my first book to be published in hard form. It explores the origins of the Sicilian Mafia, while examining the slave children who were known as the little wagons, who worked in the sulphur mines.”

Crozier’s latest novel is the first of a trilogy, which will detail the Mafia from its infancy to the advent of the Italian crime families in Boston.

Crozier has conducted in-depth research, having travelled on numerous trips to Italy and the United States to build up a fuller knowledge of the themes explored in his works.

He added: “The New York crime families from the 1930s onwards have been well documented. I wanted to look at the origins of the Cosa Nostra in the 19th Century through to the early 20th Century in Boston.”
