Museum’s latest collection focused on Carnlough

A RARE collection of photographs depicting Carnlough’s hidden heritage is to go on public view, thanks to a £25,000 Heritage and Lottery Fund (HLF) grant.

Larne Borough Council Heritage Service will now be enabled to preserve, conserve and interpret the pictures, which have been donated to Larne Museum and Arts Centre. Working in conjunction with Carnlough Vintage Society, the project will use the collection to uncover and preserve stories and facts from a fascinating period in the village’s history.

The fabulous array of negatives was kindly donated by sisters Linda McCullough and Norma Craig. The images taken by their father (the late Jim McNeill, of Largy Road) capture the spirit and fun of Carnlough during the 1960s and 1970s, when the area was a key tourist location and an incredibly active spot. The grant will allow staff at the museum and volunteers from the vintage society to create a photographic exhibition and capture the memories and stories behind the images.
