Musical Society bring Irving Berlin classic to the local stage

Tickets are now on sale for the latest production from Banbridge Musical Society.

The local company will stage the Irving Berlin classic Annie Get Your Gun at the Iveagh Movie Studios from Tuesday May 12.

The song list for this tale of legendary sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her rival and love interest Frank Butler reads like a “Broadway’s Greatest Hits” compilation, including unforgettable tunes like There’s No Business Like Show Business, Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better, and I’ve Got the Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night – just to name a few. It’s a healthy and hearty family-friendly dose of Americana at its best, featuring Annie and fellow legendary western icons Buffalo Bill Cody and Sitting Bull, among others.

“We are very excited to kick off what promises to be an exciting and fun packed production for Banbridge Musical Society with one of the most popular musicals in theatre history,” said Rosemary Kelly Chairperson for Banbridge Musical Society. “This is a show for all generations, combining an embarrassment of musical riches with a wholesome and uniquely American story that makes it a great way to dive into summer. It’s Irving Berlin at his very best, presented by a cast that, in true Banbridge Musical Society tradition, features extraordinary talent from around the Banbridge area.

Familiar faces will include Lorraine Jackson – Brown in the title role, who Banbridge Musical Society audiences will remember from her acclaimed stage presence as Sally Smith in the 2013 production of Me and My Girl. Also returning is Killian Foy, who is a rising star from Newry, who played Joseph in Newry Bosco drama group’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Killian will be playing opposite Lorraine in the role of Frank Butler. The cast is also full of talented local favourites.

“This will be an evening of pure fun, whether you know this show like the back of your hand or are discovering a Broadway treasure for the first time,” Leonard Anderson said. “Great songs, great story, great talent…and pure enjoyment – all the things that make people fall in love with theatre in the first place.”

Annie Get Your Gun will be presented in the Iveagh Movie Studios from Tuesday May 12 till Saturday May 16 at 7:30pm each evening.
