Musical youth stage '˜inspiring' show

'Musicals that Matter' was the theme of a production staged by Carrickfergus YMCA at the McNeill Theatre in Larne recently.

The show was produced by Carrickfergus YMCA in association with Uplift Performing Arts and the Health Hub.

The inspiring project got together 20 young people and after ten weeks of hard work, they staged a two-hour show.

It was also an opportunity for particpants to learn about the stories behind each musical.

Adam Hamilton, project worker, Health Hub, Carrickfergus YMCA, said: “This show really got across the emotional journey and how young people can build resilience and self-confidence and better mental health through getting involved in intense programmess like this one.

“Those involved have been learning how these stories relate to every day challenges and how to deal with them.

“Each young person has stated that their mental health and resilience has increased through this unique project and that this musical experience has been life-changing.”

A spokesperson for Uplift Performing Arts said: “What a fantastic production and tremendous cast.

“Our team have been so blessed to work with these young people over the last 10 weeks. Looking forward to more projects like this in the future.”
