Mystery surrounds car theft incident in Crumlin

MYSTERY surrounds an incident in Crumlin at the weekend when it was reported three car thieves were prevented from stealing a vehicle outside a shop at Main Street.

Locals said that at around 9pm on Sunday, a man stopped his car outside the shop with three children on board.

While the man went inside the shop, three car thieves attempted to steal his car with the three children still inside.

One local reported that up to five youths who were sitting outside the Snooker club and could see what was happening then chased the car thieves.

"The children were squealing, there was a lot of commotion when they realised what was happening and the young men who were sitting outside the Snooker Club went to their aid," said one witness.

Another witness said: "There was a lot of noise and upset and it was just awful. If it had not been for the youths sitting outside the club goodness knows what would have happened. "They might have driven off with the children inside. Thankfully the children were then reunited with their father."

Police were contacted and according to their records the incident had not been reported.

The witnesses however said they understood the police were called but the PSNI said they had no record of the incident.
