Speculation on the location of the pizza store has been fuelled by a Facebook page purporting to be Domino’s Magherafelt, which claimed that they had changed their plans, to move to more prominent premises in the south Derry town.

However, when the Mid Ulster Mail contacted Domino’s, they refused to confirm that they were even opening an outlet in Magherafelt.

“I’m afraid we’re not in a position to comment on this,” replied a spokesperson, when asked if and when they planned to open a store in the town.

But earlier this month, the ‘Domino’s Magherafelt’ Facebook page posted: “An update on our new Magherafelt location. After acquiring a unit and gaining planning on Broad Street we have since decided to take on a more prominent and larger site.

“Stay tuned for further updates.”

And last week, the social media page whipped up more interest by asking; ”Who knows where our NEW location is going to be in Magherafelt?”, which attracted dozens of guesses.

They have recently opened a store in Dungannon and are also believed to be looking at an outlet in Cookstown.

Domino’s are the latest in line of big names muted to be coming to Magherafelt.

In 2014 it was reported that McDonalds or Burger King were in the running to open a drive thru restaurant at King Street in Magherafelt.

The proposed development on the site of the former St John’s Hall is expected to create 50 new jobs in the town. The drive-thru and restaurant application - for businessman Brian McNicholl - attracted eight letters of objection.
