Nadine backs Londonderry bid

NADINE Coyle is the latest chart-topper to weigh in behind the Londonderry bid for the UK City of Culture 2013.

A letter of support from the Girls Aloud starlet was included with the bid submitted in Manchester yesterday.

The pop beauty took a break from recording her debut album in the US to record the message backing her native city.

She fought for years before Girls Aloud were finally given the green light to perform in the city in a series of sell-out gigs at the Millennium Forum.

The bid also included letters of support from a range of other celebrities including Anne Robinson, Gabriel Byrne, Ciaran McMenamin, Brendan Gleeson, James Nesbitt, Bronagh Gallagher, Feargal Sharkey, Snow Patrol, The Undertones, Darron Gibson and Seamus Heaney.

Support from across Ireland and the US has flooded in this week, with the American special envoy to Northern Ireland Declan Kelly hosting events in Dublin, while Lord Mayor of Belfast Naomi Long and the First and Deputy First Ministers backing the bid in Belfast this week.
