'Naked ambition'

TWO Faughanvale men have literally taken their 'naked ambition' to the next level in an effort to raise funds for Africa's most impoverished families.

Local men James O'Neill and Patrick Donaghy have embarked on a series of fundraising activities, including the launch of their very own 'naked' calendar, to raise cash for local charity Habitat for Humanity NI. The-28 year-old's will travel to Ghana on September 1 to build houses for some of the world's poorest communities. As well as a charity cycle, leg waxing, disco and charity football match taking place over the coming weeks, a 2011 calendar of the Faughanvale fellas has just hit the shelf of Nicholl's shop in Greysteel featuring raunchy pics of the lads and 10 other friends. Unfortunately the images were a bit too risque for the Sentinel to publish but James and Patrick have posed, fully clothed, with their charity calendars.

"We have printed around 200 and have gave ten copies each to family and friends to sell plus Nicholl's shop have agreed to sell some for us too," Patrick told the Sentinel.

"We hope that with this and the range of events we have planned will help us raise the cash we need to go out to Ghana and help with the charity efforts."

"It was a laugh doing the calendar, I shot the images myself and put it together. Limavady Printing Company were great and printed them for us."

Patrick and James decided to embark on the charity adventure after researching the idea at the beginning of the year.

Patrick added: "We had a look at a few charities and settled on Habitat for Humanity NI. It's a great cause and we will go out in September with a team of people to build houses for the community in Ghana. We are both really excited but the focus is now on raising the cash we need to get out there."

Patrick, a former student of St Mary's High School, Limavady, is no stranger to charity and has completed previous charity adventures including a trek of the five peaks of the north in 24 hours last year for Marie Curie.

"We will go out there and make the most of it. I was supposed to be climbing seven peaks this year as well but hurt my ankle so it would've been impossible for me to go. Everyone is welcome to come to the events organised over the coming months. We even have a bit of leg waxing going on as well. Any support is very much appreciated."

James and Patrick have organised a charity cycle on Friday, July 9, leaving from Eglinton Cricket Club and going to Limavady and back, followed by a night at the Record Club, Du Pont. There will be several events on the night including a BBQ, disco, leg waxing and more. The fun starts at 8pm, and everyone is welcome. A charity football game will also take place at the Vale Centre Greysteel on Saturday July 17 at 2pm. The 2011 calendar featuring the Faughanvale lads is on sale now and are available from Nicholls Shop, or by contacting any member of the calendar. For more information on any of these events contact James on 07751063029 or Patrick on 07921710819.
