Name for the new civic centre

LIMAVADY'S new civic centre has officially been given a name-The Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.

The name was chosen out of a shortlist of five titles altogether at last Tuesday's full council meeting.

Commenting on the decision a council spokesperson said: "I embrace the decision of Council to decide on a name which not only celebrates the activities which will be delivered within the new facility but also ensures that the profile of Limavady and the Roe Valley will continue to be prominent within the new Causeway Coast and Glens Council. Officers now have a facility with its own identity and we now can't wait to promote and publicise this great community asset. The building which we expect to be open by June of this year will also include a Visitor Information Centre complete with story telling and exhibition areas, internet access and a gift shop. This will provide an excellent opportunity for local and national crafts to showcase and for us to retail their products. The long wait for this facility is now over. The future is exciting for the Borough and Council hopes that this new venue will stimulate not only economic regeneration of Limavady town centre but also the other towns and villages within the Borough."

Proposals to name each room in the centre after various aspects in the Borough are also being considered.
