National chain has plans for new store

Lurgan looks set for a jobs boost with news that a national DIY chain are primed to establish a base here.

Screwfix, who have four stores in Northern Ireland, are understood to be moving into the old Laser premises on Millennium Way with negotiations at an advanced stage.

The ‘MAIL’ became aware of the move at the beginning of the week, though a spokesperson for the company said they “have not committed to the launch of any further stores in Northern Ireland at this stage”.

However on Tuesday Screwfix were tweeting about the opening of new trade counters in Lurgan, Lisburn, Newry and Londonderry.

They even copied the Lurgan Mail in on a Tweet seeking a new team for their Lurgan store.

When contacted by the ‘MAIL’ again Screwfix issued an updated statement which read: “We have recently launched four stores in Northern Ireland and we always have an eye out for suitable new locations. Lurgan is of interest to us, however, we have not committed to the launch of any further stores in Northern Ireland at this stage.”

Screwfix has launched four new stores in Northern Ireland in Belfast, Bangor, Ballymena and Newtownabbey.
