National Trust Members outing

First stop was the historic Enniskillen castle, formerly an English garrison fort and military barracks.

Following a brief historical introduction by one of the Museum’s staff, members explored both museums at their leisure.

Next on the itinerary was the magnificent Florencecourt, the former eighteenth-century home of the Earls of Enniskillen and now a National Trust property.

Here members were welcomed by Jim Chestnutt, a former secretary of the Association and now Area Manager of the National Trust’s Fermanagh properties.

Following lunch, members were given a guided tour of the house and its contents, many of which have been recovered since the National Trust took over the property in 1954.

As always, the trip (and the weather) had been well-organised by Anne Moore and Kathleen Stewart. Guiding throughout was excellent.
