Nature Reserve declaration

THE DoE has declared part of Portrush as a National Nature Reserve.

The area lies within Ramore Head and the Skerries Area of Special Scientific Interest and was declared as a National Nature Reserve on March 31.

The Reserve consists of a sill of ancient igneous rock (which makes up the Skerries) that has intruded on even older (Jurassic) mudstones consisting of planes of ammonite fossils.
