'Nearly three times limit and mopeds don't go well together'

A BALLYMENA man who was over the legal drink-drive limit while riding a moped has been banned from driving for 12 months.

Christopher Green (54), of Larne Road, was also fined 75 after admitting a charge of driving with excess alcohol consumed, when he appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told that Green was observed riding a moped in the Ballykeel area on April 10.

It was observed that he was unsteady on his feet and that his speech was slurred.

He provided a breath specimen with a concentration of 97 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35/100.

District Judge Des Perry said: “Nearly three times the legal limit and mopeds don’t go well together.”

The judge said the low financial penalty reflected Green’s previous clear record.
