Neighbour scares off would be burglars

POLICE are appealing for information after a 91-year-old woman was targetted during a distraction burglary at her home at Benson Street.

The incident happened on June 28 at around 2.45pm, but details are only now emerging.

Police say one man took the elderly occupant of the house around to her back garden. While there another man entered the house.

However, a neighbour saw what was happening and disturbed the would be thief inside, who immediately made off in the direction of Antrim Road.

The other man ran out from the back garden.

It is not believed he had been in the house and he made off in the direction of Thepival Road.

Police described the men as being around six feet tall. One was possibly local to the area, approximately late teens to early 20’s, six feet tall, thin build, quite pale complexion, dirty fair, short hair and wearing a cream/off white coloured fisherman’s type hat and Buddy Holly type glasses. The other man was in his early 20’s, heavy build with neat short, dark hair, with big eyes and bushy, dark eyebrows with a slightly tanned complexion.

He also wore skinny, black jeans, a fine black and grey horizontal striped, long sleeve, round neck jumper and black trainer boots (leather type).
