“It is through teams like this that important relationships in our city are being built and safe, confident communities created.

“Our city team is commendable for the professional manner and exceptional service it has delivered for our citizens. I would like to sincerely congratulate these men and women for providing such a valuable service and wish them good luck for the UK final later this summer.”

District Policing Partnership (DPP) Chairman Councillor Thomas Conway also congratulated the local Neighbourhood Team saying: “This team has delivered a reliable and professional service, developing personal relationships with local communities in the midst of a very challenging policing environment.

“It is only by coming together as a community and building upon these relationships that we can ensure a safe and harmonious future for everyone. I am delighted that such a dedicated team has been recognized for the contribution it has made to our city.”

G District Commander Chief Superintendent Stephen Martin said: “I was really proud to see the District so well represented at the Policing with the Community Awards.

“I am particularly pleased for Sergeant Sam Young and his team - they thoroughly deserve to be recognised for their hard work and commitment.

“There is a lot of good work that goes on across our neighbourhood teams, much of it behind the scenes. It is important that we continue to promote the work our neighbourhood colleagues are doing in partnership with communities.”

As well as a personal award, the team will receive a £2,000 bursary to be spent on a Policing with the Community initiative within their local area.

The Foyle City Centre Team will now be entered for the National and International Policing Awards due to take place later this year.
