Neither crew nor craft to blame and injured attendant making good progress

The director of flight operations and safety at Flybe says an accident on board a flight between Birmingham and Belfast in February was neither the fault of the crew nor the aircraft.

Equally, Captain Ian Baston said the cabin attendant seriously injured in the incident is making good progress and is being supported in her recovery by staff and management.

He said: “Flybe has received a copy of the report, published by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) into the incident involving a Dash-8 aircraft operated by the airline.

“The aircraft encountered unforeseen turbulence on the morning of February 7, 2014, whilst passing over the Isle of Man.

“The turbulence caused discomfort to passengers and resulted in one crew member requiring hospital admittance.

“The incident was caused by a weather situation which, by its nature, is unpredictable and the AAIB is satisfied that no fault lay with either the crew or the aircraft.

“A minor recommendation about the carriage of blankets on board flights has been taken on board and Flybe immediately started implementation of this recommendation on its aircraft.

“The cabin crew member is making good progress, following her injury and is being supported by colleagues and Flybe management.”
