New appeal on dog fouling problems at Lurgan Park

Dog owners are being urged to take responsibility for cleaning up after their pets.

Council recently placed a large banner at the entrance of Lurgan Park appealing for the public to report those not cleaning up.

Lurgan DUP Alderman Carla Lockhart has said her party “takes a dim view on those who allow their dogs to foul and not clean up after them”.

Ald Carla Lockhart said, “As a local councillor I receive, on a daily basis, complaints about dog fouling being strewn around the local area.

“It is one of the most disgusting habits and I cannot fathom why owners of dogs do not clean up after them,” she said.

“I would like to encourage all dog owners to be responsible and clean up the fouling, we have also challenged Council to be more robust on fines issued for such activity and the need for education and sufficient bins to deal with this problem.

“The vast majority of dog owners do clean up however, there are repeat offenders who destroy it for everyone else.”

“I take a dim view on those who allow their dogs to foul and not clean up after them,” she said.

“It is my intention along with my colleagues to invest more resources into tackling this plague and endeavour to get more litter wardens and dog wardens out on the ground. This issue will be continuously raised at a council level in the coming weeks.”
