New art gallery to open in Cathedral quarter

A NEW contemporary art collective in Londonderry whose mission is to give emerging artists and curators the best tools available for developing internationally successful careers is getting set to open a new exhibition centre in the city’s Cathedral quarter.

The Londonderry Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) has applied for permission to open a new gallery just around the corner from St Columb’s Cathedral and the Fountain estate.

The application is for the “proposed change of use from ground floor vacant office to class D1 Art Gallery” at 10-12 Artillery Street.

CCA has been operating out of a satellite space in the Londonderry Craft village.

The group aims to foster a wide range of artistic practices through production and exhibitions, research and publication, public programmes, and residencies.

Its mission is to “offer audiences access to the most relevant and engaging art practices of our times. We give special consideration to those artists and projects with a connection to our area.”
