New artwork planned for Lisburn city centre

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and Lisburn Historic Quarter Arts Group (LHQAG) have announced an investment of over £40,000 as part of the Public Art Programme.

The funding comes from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland to support the commissioning of a new piece of public art for Lisburn City Centre.

As part of the overall Lisburn City Centre Public Realm Scheme, the aim of the Public Art Programme is to maximise the potential of Lisburn City Centre as a contemporary European City benefiting its people and quality of life.

Alongside Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Lisburn Historic Quarter Arts Group devises and coordinates arts and cultural initiatives within Lisburn’s Historic Quarter.

The group works in partnership with key agencies to contribute to the regeneration of the area.

Chair of the Lisburn Historic Quarter Arts Group Alex Braniff explained: “We are exceptionally excited to be able to deliver this programme.

“Not only will it offer artists an opportunity to design an innovative piece of public art but it will educate young people on local heritage.”

Joanna Johnston, Visual Arts Officer at the Arts Council, added: “We are delighted to be able to support the development of this new piece of public art.

“This is a great opportunity to establish a significant creative focal point for a regenerated civic space in the heart of the city centre.”

Lisburn Historic Quarter Arts Group now seeks expressions of interest from experienced and suitably qualified artists/creative design teams to develop this new public artwork for Lisburn City Centre.

The total budget available for the artwork is up to £35,000 (inclusive of VAT).

The deadline for expressions of interest is 12 Noon on Friday October 2. 2015. Late submissions will not be accepted.
