New Autumn Programme launched at Positive Steps, Cookstown

A warm welcome awaits you on taking the first step towards a new hobby or career at Positive Steps Community Centre, Cookstown.

The local community organisation based on Park Avenue in the town, have just launched their brand new Autumn Programme which is packed full of courses to suit everyone.

A wide variety of courses are on offer particularly to 
assist those people who are unemployed and economically inactive, but also for those people who may have missed the 
opportunity to gain essential skills and retrained in English and Maths.

Speaking about the courses, Centre manager Mary Hogg told the MAIL: “We are also offering this term a great range of computer courses which involve accreditation, such as Word and Text Processing, New CLAIT, Basic Computing and ECDL.

“We also offer a wide range of what would be known as recreational craft courses, looking at different techniques such as painting your own furniture, shabby chic and floral art, enterprise home interiors, cards and crafts and much more.

“We are here for those people who are finding it difficult to gain employment. We offer a number of services including providing one to one help with writing CV’s, filling in application forms and interview techniques.”

Positive Steps also provide courses which can help enhance your employment prospects including Food Hygiene Level 2 and First Aid Level 2.

There are great courses also available for older people in the community such as digital photography, de-stress and relaxation, silver surfers and many more which are all free of charge for older people, allowing them the opportunity to try something new and meet new friends.

Alongside the courses, within Positive Steps Community Centre there are other services available such as a free listening counselling support service as well as on site crèche for parents participating in the courses, free of charge.
