New breakfast club is a healthy start to day

Drumellan Community Association successfully applied for community grant funding from the local Housing Executive office which has helped them establish a breakfast club within the Children and Young People’s Centre.

The breakfast club aims to help local people who start work early and need support with getting their children to school.

The Housing Executive was pleased to support the initiative which sees the club opening at 7.30am Monday to Friday. It is proving a valuable addition to the community as 12 children are now being dropped off to enjoy a healthy breakfast before being taken to the nearby schools.

Michelle McCrink, Childcare Team Leader at Drumellan Community Association, expressed the association’s “delight with the Housing Executive’s support of the breakfast club” saying “It is already proving popular 
and is appreciated by parents.”

She went on: “Our club currently employs two people and a number of volunteers. As the service expands we hope to provide further volunteering opportunities.”

Denise McNally, Housing Executive Area Manager, echoed what Michelle said: “Providing support to the community as a whole is at the core of the 
Housing Executive’s work.

“We were therefore pleased to help Drumellan Community Association with this project as 
the need was clearly identified.

“It is also the first step to what we hope will prove a successful social enterprise providing a necessary service, employment and volunteering opportunities.”
