Year Eight student Jack has been involved with CoderDojo at the AmmA Centre in Armagh for the past couple of years and this year one of his CoderDojo mentors nominated him for the 2015 Department of Culture Arts and Leisure ‘Learning and Innovation Awards’.

This nomination was based on the significant personal achievements Jack has accomplished over the last year and also the development of a website to help others to learn more about coding.

Nominations for this award were accepted for adults also and therefore Jack was up against strong competition.

The awards took place at the DCAL Learning and Innovation Awards at The Playhouse, Derry/Londonderry on Wednesday 17 June.

Jack was awarded the Individual Impact Award Awards and was presented by Mr Arthur Scott, Director of Culture at DCAL.

He prepared a presentation with video about CoderDojo and presented this to the audience.

Jack, who attended the awards ceremony in full school uniform, was highly praised by Mrs Anderson, Principal and Ms Jenkins, Form Tutor.

Mrs Anderson said: “We are delighted for Jack, a very worthy winner of an Individual Innovation award.

“This is quite a high profile event with various representatives from DCAL and we are so very proud of Jack’s achievements. It is evident that he has a bright future ahead of him and he is a wonderful ambassador for New-Bridge Integrated College.”

It will be a busy week for Jack as he is also attending ‘Coolest Projects’ at the RDS in Dublin on Saturday 20 June which is a separate event run by the CoderDojo Foundation.

Over the past few weeks he’s been developing his website further and getting designs made for his marketing material.
