New chairperson for CACTI charity group

Maggie Taggart has taken over the post from Mandy Wilson, who has stepped down.

CACTI was established in 1996 to care for the terminally-ill in East Antrim.

The association raises funds to buy equipment to help those at home who are most in need. This has included wheelchairs, pressure-relieving mattresses, pressure-relieving cushions, electric risers, recliner chairs, pillow elevators and bedding.

CACTI says that requests for such equipment should be made through a district nurse. Subject to availability, the group will do its utmost to assist as quickly as possible.

Its work is largely dependent on a team of dedicated and concerned volunteers. CACTI prides itself in ensuring that administration costs are kept to an absolute minimum directing cash where it is most needed, to those in real need.

CACTI believes that 90 per cent of people who die of terminal illness receive care in their own home. The community can help by raising much-needed money or by registering as a supporter.

The charity is delighted to have received “very positive feedback from users of equipment, family members, carers and district nurses.

CACTI would be pleased to receive donations from a variety of sources, whether corporate or personal and would be willing to visit any interested company, club, organisation or family to explain the work of the charity.
