New charity partnership blooms for Thompsons and Marie Curie

The new partnership has been welcomed by Thompsons Sales Manager Jonathan McCaughan.

Thompsons, one of Northern Ireland’s oldest companies, produces 50% of all animal feed supplied here and employs 166 staff at their state of the art mill in Belfast. As part of the new initiative the famous Marie Curie daffodil will adorn the lorries in the Thompsons fleet.

Jonathan McCaughan, Sales Manager for Thompsons, who lives in Coleraine said: “Thompsons has been part of the Northern Ireland agricultural community for more than 100 years.

“We understand that most farming families affected by terminal illness would prefer to care for their loved ones at home, close to the farms they love.

“Marie Curie nurses provide around 70,000 hours of nursing care to patients throughout Northern Ireland every year, and make that choice possible for patients and their families even in the most isolated rural locations.

“Their inspirational nurses travel the length and breadth of Northern Ireland and that’s why we feel it’s fitting that their daffodil now adorns our region wide fleet, raising awareness of their great work and highlighting our commitment to them.

“We will be fundraising throughout the year to ensure that Marie Curie can expand its services further into rural communities and support people affected by terminal illness”.

Tracey Wylie, Senior Nurse, Marie Curie said: “Everyone should have access to high quality end of life care when and where they need it. For most people this means dying at home. We are delighted that Thompsons has chosen to support our nurses and help us to reach more patients in even the most rural locations in Northern Ireland.

“Our nurses provide specialist, free of charge care and support for almost 2,000 patients and their families every year but this is only possible thanks to generous supporters like Thompsons”.
