New coal facility bound for Larne Harbour

Leading solid fuel supplier Fergusson Coal has secured a new facility in Larne that will support the company’s drive to build its presence across the Irish house coal market.

Fergusson Coal is already one of the leading suppliers of house coal in the UK, and has been present in Northern Ireland since 2011.

The agreement to open a new base in Larne Harbour represents a major strategic step for the company, reinforcing its commitment to the market across the whole of Ireland.

The new depot at Redlands Crescent will play a key part in Fergusson Coal’s strategy to expand its sales presence, providing competitively priced fuel products, backed by reliable service, to customers in both the north and south.

The expanded operation will directly support increasing sales volumes through its distribution partners such as coal merchants and local retailers, while also supporting the company’s plans to increase its wholesale market presence.

High quality coal supplies will be shipped directly to Larne from Hunterston on Scotland’s west coast – from where Fergusson already supplies in the region of two million tonnes per year to customers across the UK and in Europe.

A key focus for the expanded operation will be on the provision of pre-pack fuel, as the company responds to the growing customer demand for supplies in clean, convenient, easily carried bags.

Sales and Operations Manager for Ireland, Stephen Ashe said: “The new facility represents a major step forward in our Irish growth plans, providing us with high quality coal shipped straight from Scotland.

“It will enable us to fulfil growing customer demand from our continually expanding distribution network, whilst also supporting plans to grow our wholesale presence.

“Fergusson Coal’s key focus in developing our Irish operation is on listening closely to what customers want, matching their needs with products delivered to rigorous quality standards, and ensuring a smooth joined up service. Our new Larne operation will enable us to meet these commitments on an increasing scale.”

“When compared with other forms of domestic heating, coal remains a reliable, and competitively priced option in a time of rising energy bills.

“In a challenging market, coal has a huge role to play, and we’ve found that households are increasingly discovering its competitive benefits for open fires, multi fuel stoves, room heaters, cookers and boilers.

“Overall we are very confident that our Larne investment leaves Fergusson Coal very well placed to meet growing customer demand throughout Ireland.”
