‘New College will happen’

SDLP representatives, MLA John Dallat, and councillors Maura Hickey, Gerry Mullan and Stephanie Quigley, visited NRC Coleraine recently.

In a statement, MLA Dallat said that the SDLP believes that a new College in Coleraine will be built ‘sooner rather than later’.

“The Northern Regional College on its various sites must ensure student recruitment meets enrolment targets and, of course programmes of study must be completed successfully. That is key to balancing the books and encouraging more young people to choose a vocational pathway to their

future job prospects.

“Staff redundancies have been painful but necessary to ensure that the college achieves its key performance indicators including embedding innovative use of technologies, ensures students are satisfied with their College experience and enjoy a safe and supportive learning environment. The NRC is doing that but it is now doing much more. We were delighted to hear about the strategic partnerships being developed and welcomed the efforts being made to ensure external stakeholders are satisfied with their College engagement.

“We in the SDLP have fought for many years for a new college in Coleraine and we believe that will now happen, sooner rather than later, as a direct result of the new management in place.”
