New community building's name a nod to Dungannon's railway history

Details of the impending opening date of a brand new community building at Beechvalley in Dungannon - which will be called '˜The Junction' - have been announced.

The building will have STEP as its anchor tenants, alongside Willowbank and Beacon Wellbeing, and will open its doors shortly after Easter.

Situated on a former railway halt and within the Railway Park walking path, the facility has been named to reflect the rich history of the area while looking ahead to a new future for the many communities now living in Dungannon.

A STEP spokesperson said: “The name further represents the junction at which the various organisations using the centre will meet and set out on a new shared path.”

A launch day is planned, to allow the community to find out more about what will be happening at the new centre, which is part of a £7 million European investment project in Dungannon.

Other elements of the project delivered by Mid Ulster Council are a new viewing tower and events space on Hill of the O’Neill, along with a new 6.9km path linking key recreational spaces in the town.

Bernadette McAliskey of STEP added: “STEP is justifiably proud of all of those who helped the local council- community partnership in making it to this junction. We hope the Junction will be a central point from which everybody can find their way to what makes life work better.”
