New community facility opens in Broughshane

MINISTER for Social Development Nelson McCausland has officially opened the recently refurbished and renovated Broughshane House which will serve as a community hub for the surrounding area.

The Village Garden (Broughshane) Ltd received over £570,000 from the Department’s Modernisation Fund Capital Programme to significantly renovate and develop the derelict property on the village’s Main Street.

Speaking at the official opening Minister McCausland said: “I welcome the development and renovation of Broughshane House. The new facilities incorporating office space, community space, a community museum, exhibition space and business units will benefit the whole community and support job creation in the area.

“The Modernisation Fund has been very successful in supporting voluntary and community organisations to become more sustainable and deliver new and better services.”

The development of the derelict property was carefully carried out to ensure the character of the original building was maintained and in keeping with the surroundings of the Garden Village of Ulster.

The three levels were rebuilt to include a drop in advice centre, office space and business units available for rent. Additional funding was provided by Ballymena Borough Council.
