New community garden

Tenants from Fold Housing Association's Saint Patrick's Development in Ballymena have recently completed a community planting project.

This brought Saint Patrick’s Residents’ Association, Fold and Groundwork NI together to transform a piece of vacant ground within the neighbourhood into a small community.

The project which has been well received locally was funded through the Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful Live here, Love Here initiative.

A people powered campaign focused on improving the local environment and building a sense of pride in local communities. Live Here, Love Here is supported by a number of local authorities to include Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

Robert Lorimer, Chairman of the Saint Patrick’s Residents’ Association said: “The project has been a great success and we hope to build upon this by undertaking more community led initiatives. I would like to thank everyone who turned out on the day, including volunteers from Fold Housing Association.”

Bronagh O’Kane, Regeneration Manager, Fold Housing Association said: “It is very encouraging to see groups such as the St Patrick’s residents being proactive in shaping their community.

“The community planting project has brought people together in a positive setting that will benefit everyone by improving the quality of the local environment and strengthening community relations.”
