“The Elected Members of the Mid and East Antrim District Council would like to acknowledge and thank the citizens of the three existing council areas for taking the time to get involved and for giving us their

valued opinions as to the name of the new Council. We had many different suggestions and variations for

the potential new Council name, all of which had merit.

“One clear favourite stood out for both the public and the Council Members, and as a result Mid and East Antrim was selected,” Cllr. Ashe said.

Cllr. Ashe adds; “Mid and East Antrim are working to secure Borough status from ‘day one’. To achieve this, we intend to use the Charter from the Historic Town of Carrickfergus which will become the Charter for Mid and East Antrim changing us from a District, to being a Borough.”

“The public consultation process that we undertook, along with our agreed name and Borough status, means that we can move forward with certainty and surety to the final stages of developing the brand identity for the new Council that will be recognised by all, and associated with the improvements in public services that we will deliver.”
