New course to help those living with hearing loss

It is run by Rathfriland residents Leslie and Ramona Williams in the Community Space at Tesco Bridgewater Extra Store at Bridgewater Retail Park.

The course was the brainchild of Leslie Williams who started it after reading a leaflet at his local Audiology Department suggesting that everyone with hearing loss should have access to lipreading classes.

He was disappointed to learn that there are currently no classes available in the area and felt that it was important to get something started.

With the help from Hearing Link, Banbridge Lipreading Group will start on Tuesday April 28, from 2-4pm.

The course will be taken by Anne Madill. Several local businesses have pledged their support for this exciting opportunity.

Leslie said: “It will be great to see this class happening in the local area. Lipreading is so important when you are struggling with hearing loss and we are pleased to help get this new group started. We would encourage anyone who is interested to come along and meet new people and learn how to cope better.”

“Learning new skills such as lipreading is vital in managing hearing loss and improves confidence in communication for those who struggle with their hearing.
