New diabetes services

A NEW diabetes service for children and young people was launched as part of Diabetes Week, which will run until June 16.

The new diabetes education and support programme, called CHOICE, is proving to be a great success with children and young people who have diabetes in the Western Health and Social Care Trust area.

Developed by Dr David Chaney, in the University of Ulster, it is being funded by the EU Interreg IVA programme, in conjunction with Co-operation and Working Together (CAWT).

Participants attend over a four week period, with each session lasting three hours, and aims to give sufferers, their families and carers the skills and knowledge they need to manage their diabetes and to reduce the impact of the condition on daily activities and lifestyle.
