New era for West Street congregation

CARRICKFERGUS Methodist Church begins the next chapter in its life and witness on Saturday with the opening of its new building at the corner of West Street and Albert Road.

This is the third Methodist Church building on the site. The first one was built in 1810; it was demolished and replaced by a building in 1884. In 2008 that building was demolished to allow for the 2010 building.

The opening service will be conducted by the President of the Methodist Church in Ireland, the Rev Paul Kingston at 2.30pm.

Celebrations will continue with services on Sunday at 11.00am and 7.00pm and Monday to Wednesday at 7.45pm. The Guest Preacher at these will be the Rev Philip Hacking from Sheffield.

On Saturday 11 September the church will also be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm for viewing.

Minister Rev Aian Ferguson stated: "The community will be warmly welcomed to any of these services and events.

"With the opening celebrations behind them the congregation looks forward to a variety of services and activities for all ages.

"The congregation greatly appreciates the help, support and good will it has received from so many during the whole project."
