New facebook group shows the only way IS Ballymena

A NEW Facebook page set up to take a nostalgic look at Ballymena, is quickly becoming a web sensation.

Local Facebookers have been posting their memories and pictures of the town on the ‘The Only Way Is Ballymena Hey’ which is swiftly becoming one of the most popular local pages on the social network site.

Despite ‘going live’ barely a week ago, it has nearly two thousand followers who have begun to post their memories and photos.

The Ballymena Times own Facebook page has also helped to promote the page and help it gain new followers.

Hundreds of comments have appeared about shops and buildings that have long since gone but still remain important to the people of Ballymena.

One facebooker, David Carlisle said: “The funfair that used to come to the People’s Park every summer, that was a while back!” Nicola Magee replied: “I was just thinking that myself! Never missed it!”

While Hayley Ruck recalls the Cabin Bar on Ballymoney Street: “It was one of the best wee pubs in Ballymena!”

Site adminsitrator The Only Way Is Ballymena Hey asked: “Who all had chips from Noel Barr’s orange and white chip cart? Great memories.”

A number of incredible pictures are also on the site, ranging from black and white pics of the Mill, to shops that have left the town centre less than a decade ago.
