New facilities at Leisureplex get the green light

LISBURN City Council has got the green light from planners for new sports facilities at the Lagan Valley Leisureplex.

Despite two objections to the proposals, the Planning Service have given the go ahead for a full size artificial 3G football pitch, 5 and 7 a side football cages, floodlighting and new changing accommodation.

The plans also include the upgrading of the existing car park and the construction of new car parking at the Leisureplex.

Chairman of Lisburn City Council's Leisure Services Committee, Councillor David Archer welcomed the granting of planning permission for what he said were 'much-needed new facilities'.

"The Council is looking forward to undertaking this project following the receipt of planning permission" he said.

"Phase One will include the installation of a full size 3G football pitch and the installation of two 7-aside and six 5-aside 3G football cages, all with floodlighting. Also proposed in the recommended planning application is the upgrading of the existing car park.

"The Council will be undertaking a tender process in the autumn to have these works completed," he concluded.
