New facilities for St Mary’s Primary

Friday, December 13, was an eagerly awaited day for the staff and pupils of St Mary’s Primary School, Dechomet as it saw the opening of their brand new multi use hall.

The very impressive extension comprises of a main multi use area extending to 110 square metres floorspace with a generous addition of storage space, toilets and a brand new kitchen/servery for school dinners.

The hall provides a very welcome area for all types of PE classes, assemblies and drama productions.

A theatre style lighting and surround sound system has been installed adding new effects to the children’s present Christmas Productions of the ‘Little Angel’ (Primary 1 to Primary 3) and ‘Sulky Santa’ (Primary 4 to Primary 7).

Miss Margaret Ritchie MP cut the tape to officially open the hall and gave a short address to the parents and pupils in which she congratulated the school on acquiring such an up to date and spacious facility.

This was followed by a Prayer Service and blessing from local Parish Priest Father Peter McNeill. Mr Seamus Doyle, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, commented that the new facility was very necessary to meet the growing number of pupils attending the school.

Mr Brian Doyle (Principal) thanked Father McNeill for all his administration and support throughout the project and also expressed his gratitude to DENI for financing the building and SELB for furnishing the new servery,

He also thanked the architects and contractors involved which has led to this superbly completed extension.

Mr Doyle wishes to convey a warm welcome to anyone in the locality who may wish to view the facility or indeed the school as a whole.
