New Ferniskey road works information meeting held

The last major road works in the villages caused major disruption to residents, so the UUP representative organised a meeting with residents and Road Service.

He explained: “The Ferniskey Road will be closed from October 27 for a period of two weeks. The road will be closed on the Kells side of the mini-roundabout, however I have received clarification from Roads Service, that pedestrians will still have access as the footpath will remain open, and traffic will still be able to come down the Steeple Road onto the Ferniskey Road and vice versa.

“Residents will receive written information which will include further details, but they should be aware it will be delivered in envelopes addressed to ‘The Resident’, so please make sure you read these and keep them safe as they will include contact numbers.

“All buses and emergency services have been informed of the closure and the work has been scheduled to coincide with the Halloween break to lessen the inconvenience.

“During the last works, the Old Town Road was used extensively as a local diversionary route, so I urge caution to anyone using this road as it is not designed for high speed or heavy vehicles, and the authorised diversion is onto the Lisnevenagh Road and back up the newly-resurfaced Woodtown and Greenfield Roads,” said Assemblyman Swann.
