New figures outline Rathlin's popularity

THE increased popularity of Rathlin to visitors has been illustrated by new figures revealed by Moyle Council.

They show that in the 2008/09 year 7,761 visitors went to the Rathlin Boathouse Visitor Centre but the figure jumped dramatically to 12,337 visitors in 2009/10.

The Rathlin Boathouse Visitor Centre was open to the public over the Easter period this year from 3rd April to 11th April and also on 24th April 2010 to accommodate large visitor numbers to the island. There were a total of 505 visitors to the Boathouse during the month of April.

The Boathouse reopened for the summer season on 1st May and will be open seven days a week until 19th September.

A Moyle council report said: ‘Due to the significant increase in the number of visitors to Boathouse last year as a result of the introduction of the new catamaran, the Boathouse opening hours have been extended and are now 9.30am - 5.00pm.’
