New film tells story of Robert Quigg VC

The Robert Quigg V.C. Commemoration Society, with the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, has launched a new film about Sergeant Robert Quigg V.C., the Bushmills hero of the Battle of the Somme, with the help of pupils from Dunluce School, Bushmills.

The film can be viewed online at www.robertquiggvc.com and on Facebook and adapts the exciting artwork which was used to make the recently published comic strip on Robert Quigg V.C.

The Society is very grateful to Dunluce School for their help with the project.

The film concludes with a short feature by Year 3 students as they describe the importance of the courageous actions of Quigg V.C. and what it means to young people, and the town of Bushmills, a century later.

After four years of fundraising, a bronze sculpture of Robert Quigg V.C. will be unveiled by the Commemoration Society in Bushmills on Tuesday 28 June.

Keith Beattie of the Robert Quigg VC Commemoration Society will be holding a talk in Bushmills Community Centre on Saturday 11 June at 11am to help you find out what information is available.

Basic knowledge of using the internet is an advantage as many of the resources for research are available online.

The talk is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and is free. Everyone is welcome.

Rifleman Robert Quigg was awarded the Victoria Cross for his courageous actions at the Battle of the Somme.

Robert Quigg was presented with his Victoria Cross by King George V at Sandringham in January 1917.

In later life, Quigg returned to the Bushmills area and became a boatman and guide at the Giant’s Causeway, like his father before him. He died in 1955, at the age of seventy.
